The Spoon River Mussel Trail

The Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development is excited to announce a unique county-wide public art project — the Spoon River Mussel Statue Trail! We’re inviting talented artists to submit designs for painted mussel sculptures that will be placed at 10 locations across Fulton County, each reflecting the history, culture, and character of its community.
About the Project:
- The Trail celebrates Spoon River County’s heritage, scenic beauty, and small-town charm.
- Each artist-selected site will inspire the design, highlighting local stories and significant history.
- The completed mussels will create a county-wide public art trail, encouraging exploration and tourism while supporting local economic development.
What We’re Looking For:
- Original, creative, and visually striking designs.
- Designs that tell a story, celebrate local culture, or reflect the spirit of the location.
- Artists of all levels are welcome to apply.
How to Apply:
- Submit Application & required documents via email at markeitng@cantonillinois.org.
- Deadline to apply is December 31, 2025. Artists will be notified by January 15, 2026.
Compensation: Artists will receive a stipend for their work, and their creations will be permanently featured along the trail with full credit.
Join us in creating a lasting legacy of art and community pride across Spoon River County!
