Volunteer
The Canton Area Heritage Center is a totally volunteer organization. There are no paid positions. Our amazing volunteers are what keep the museum running!
Ways to Volunteer include:
Staffing the Museum

Tasks include welcoming and answering guests’ questions during our open hours, signing in donations of historic items, answering calls, and giving tours for individuals or groups.
Researching and Writing

Research new and old acquisitions; write for display descriptions, newsletters and social media/ Facebook posts.
Facility Operations

Assist with the physical setup and maintenance of museum exhibits, including cleaning display areas, installing exhibit components, and safely transporting artifacts and materials. Ensure galleries and public areas are clean, organized, and prepared for visitors.
Special Projects

Past examples include presenting at the Spoon River College Lifelong Learning Conferences, doing radio interviews to promote the museum, helping plan the annual Cemetery Walk, and doing special projects (i.e., planning events for Canton’s Bicentennial Celebration).
Serving on a Committee

We have 16 Executive Board members and five committees. Pictured are current officers, Mary Lou Kuchan, Secretary; Jim Morgan, Treasurer; Jack Pollitt, Chairman; and Phil Gregory, Vice Chairman. Additional people are recruited to join our working committees: the acquisitions committee, promotions committee, facilities committee, programs committee, and fundraising committee. We are always looking for interested people and new ideas.
We highly encourage anyone who’s interested in volunteering to contact us today. Talk to us about your availability and your interests and we will involve you where you best fit. Stop in, call (309) 647-2242 and leave a message, or email cahcpo19@att.net.
