Yard Waste Facility

The Canton Yard Waste Facility is for use by Canton residents only, for dop-off of bio-degradable yard waste. This facility is for grass clippings, plant material, and limbs. The Facility is located at the west end of Cedar Street on the southwestern edge of the city. The facility is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Fall Leaf Pick Up Program

Usually beginning in early November, two crews send approximately six weeks vacuuming up leaves that residents can rake to the terrace. The garbage routes are used to create a schedule, and crew concentrate on one garbage route for a full week at a time. Each year’s specific schedule will be posted under the City News section.

Residents are asked to rake leaves to the terrace and NOT rake leaves into the streets.  This is to prevent clogging of the catch basins, which in turn floods streets during fall rains.  Leaf piles should also be free of sticks that can clog the vacuum tubes.

Residents can also burn leaves any day of the week, using common sense to not burn on windy days, and to always attend their fire.

Residents can also take leaves and any other bio-degradable landscape waste to the Landscape Facility any day, dawn to dusk.

No Parking Ban

Once three inches (3”) of snow has fallen there is a parking ban on ALL public streets. It is illegal to park on the street for 12 hours after the snowfall, even if the plows have been through. Plowing and salting operations may require a return visit by City trucks. Vehicles parked in violation of the ban will be ticketed and may be towed at the owner’s expense. Following is the City ordinance in regards to this matter:

Pursuant to Section 9-5-2 of the Canton Municipal Code, it shall be unlawful to park any vehicle on any public street in the City at any time within twelve (12) hours after a snowfall of three inches (3”) or more has occurred.
