Employment Opportunities & Residency Requirements

Any open positions for the City of Canton will be posted on the Job Opportunities page. If there is a position posted for the City of Canton, the posting will list the application process.

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of a position may be selected for an interview.  During the interview process, certain individuals may be asked to sign a letter authorizing the City of Canton to conduct a background check. The background check is completed prior to making a job offer to any individual. All offers of employment are contingent upon to applicant’s successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination that includes a drug test, and verification of prior employment and education.

All personnel hired by the City of Canton are required to obtain residency within a 10-mile radius of the City limits within 30 days after expiration of the employee’s probationary period. New employees of the Canton Fire Department are required to obtain residency within a 25-minute radius of the Fire Department within 90 days after expiration of the employee’s probationary period.

Public Works Prevailing Wage

By means of Resolution, the City announces the Prevailing Rate of Wages for Laborers, Mechanics, and other workers employed in any Public Works by the City of Canton, Illinois.
