Canton History and Arts Alliance

The Canton History & Arts Alliance is a community-focused organization dedicated to enhancing Canton through arts, history, and beautification. Building on the momentum of the Bicentennial, the Alliance supports and activates the Opera House Plaza with events and programming, promotes and preserves the city’s historical sites and stories, encourages artistic expression through public art and performances, and leads efforts to beautify the community—strengthening pride and creating a vibrant, connected downtown.

Live at the Plaza is Canton’s signature outdoor entertainment series, bringing the Opera House Plaza to life with live music, performances, and community events throughout the season. From local talent to regional acts, each event offers a lively, welcoming atmosphere where residents and visitors can gather, relax, and enjoy downtown. With a mix of entertainment for all ages, Live at the Plaza creates memorable experiences that celebrate community, culture, and connection in the heart of Canton.

Get ready for an electrifying night of classic rock as JUMP brings the legendary sound and energy of the David Lee Roth-era Van Halen to the stage.

After selling out shows across multiple states and earning invitations to tour internationally in Canada and Australia, this Toledo, Ohio-based tribute band has quickly become one of the premier Van Halen tribute acts in the world. Made up of talented young musicians, JUMP delivers the look, sound, and excitement of Van Halen in their prime, complete with Eddie Van Halen’s iconic guitar solos, a powerhouse rhythm section, and David Lee Roth’s unmistakable vocals and stage presence.

Featuring over two hours of hits and fan-favorite deep cuts from Van Halen’s first six albums, along with authentic stage banter and classic moments inspired by the band’s legendary live performances, JUMP offers an unforgettable rock ‘n’ roll experience for fans of all ages.

Storytime at the Plaza

Join us in the Plaza for Story Time in the Plaza: a fun and interactive summer series bringing books to life in downtown Canton!

Every other Saturday will feature a different theme and special guest “host” or reader who helps bring that week’s story to life through a unique experience connected to the book.

The first 40 kids/families will receive a FREE copy of the featured book to take home, thanks to our Story Time Sponsor of the week.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a relaxing morning of stories, imagination, and community fun. Perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and young readers. Free to attend!

Throwback Thursdays

Step back in time with Throwback Thursdays, a free summer series that brings history to life through live music and storytelling. Each program explores a unique chapter of American history, culture, or heritage, combining engaging presentations with memorable songs that reveal the stories behind the music.

From the people and events that shaped our nation to the traditions and experiences that define our communities, every Throwback Thursdays performance offers a fresh perspective on history in an entertaining and interactive way.

Hosted by the Canton History & Arts Alliance at the Opera House Plaza, these family-friendly programs are free to attend. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, relax under the summer sky, and enjoy an evening where history and music come together.

Picnic at the Plaza

Take a break from your day and enjoy Picnic at the Plaza, a free lunchtime music series held on the second Friday of each month through September at the Opera House Plaza in downtown Canton.

Pack your own lunch or grab takeout from one of Canton’s local restaurants, then relax with friends, coworkers, and family while enjoying live entertainment in the heart of downtown. It’s the perfect way to enjoy great music, support local businesses, and spend your lunch hour outdoors.

What time does the plaza open for entry?

Plaza doors open approximetaly one (1) hour prior to the event start.

Can we bring lawn chairs?

Yes, lawn chairs are allowed in designated areas.

Can we bring coolers?

No, coolers are not permitted. Many events will have food and beverage vendors on site, we encourage you to utilize the vendors or the downtown businesses.

Will there be restrooms?

Porta-potty’s will be located to the back right of the stage.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

No. We encourage you to utilize the vendors and businesses.
